I agree, the sound quality, although not bad, seems to be lacking in comparison to other libs, but for sketching it seems like it is has a lot going for it. To be honest I wouldn't even pay $20 for an AIR instrument right now. Yet they are unwilling (or unable) to fix them after years of reported problems. Transfuser is still unusable 90% of the time when used in a session with Kontakt to which the reply from tech support was "yes, we're aware that certain combinations of VI's cause instability within our products". Myriad other bugs (all of which have been pointed out on their forums) with no forthcoming fixes despite being recognised by AIR - a problem not unique to Strike either. I have had nothing but trouble, stress and downright misery with both their sales and tech support.įor Strike 2 itself, there are still too many bugs to make it anything other than a sketching tool, one of the worst of which means not being able to render midi to audio due to timing errors - you're forced to use single key/pattern play and no rendering unless you want it drifting out of time within a few bars. You can load your own samples though, which is really cool but not as cool as midi out to a kit that has all that detail and Round Robins etc.ĭo yourself a favour and avoid AIR like the plague. Having said that, in looking at Strike 2 I'm not sure it offers anything that EZD2 doesn't but for someone who doesn't have EZD2 I think Strike 2 at $60 would be a bargain, with the caveat that either they updated their drums to sound better from version 1 or if there was a midi out feature so that you could use whatever drum kits sounds you wanted with it. I also like EZD2's creative way of coming up with ideas and if I were to choose a drum vst out there for it's engine only I would lean between EZD2 and Strike 2. Does anyone know if version 2 has this? I know version one did not. What would be cool is if they would allow midi out so that you could use the Strike 2 engine with your favorite kits in other VST's like EZD2 lets you do. The only issue with Strike 2 is that the sound, at least from the demos, don't seem to be as good as others.

I like it's layout better than anything else with exception of EZD2 which seems to do just a bit more than Strike 2. It looks like a very well thought out engine with both the ability to be complex and yet easy at the same time. What has got me interested in Strike 2 is its engine.

Anyone that has them will tell you how great they sound. SSD4 sounds great and I haven't given it the use it deserves yet but the first time I heard those Fairfax kits I was just so impressed. I have to say that my favorite so far for coming up with ideas is EZD2 and for kit sounds is AD2 the Fairfax Vol 1 and 2 kits (Which I got last Black Friday for $50). Oh, forgot to mention I already have SSD4 platinum as well (geez, I really do have more than I need don't I?).
